We started the popular outdoor pick your own in Horsforth in 1984 concentrating on growing strawberries and raspberries, with a number of varieties of each to enable as long a picking season as possible for our customers. In addition to our Horsforth site, 2019 saw the start of our new PYO in Barton-le-Street near Malton, not as big as the Horsforth site so it has more limited opening hours.

We keep things simple growing the strawberries in the ground, rather than in raised beds. We find that not only do the strawberries taste better this way, but think it is more fun for the kids to pick them like this, as they can rummage amongst the leaves trying to find the biggest sweetest strawberry.

Raspberries have always been grown in the ground too, but we are also now trialling some in pots to see if we can reduce disease susceptibility which raspberries can be prone to.

As the fruit is grown in open ground the season is strictly weather dependent. Generally picking starts sometime in June and finishes in early August. Once the season starts our facebook page is updated on daily basis telling our customers what we are picking and how the season is going. Once picking starts we are open everyday, and will only close if it rains heavily and persistently.

We had a successful first season of PYO pumpkins for Halloween 2018. For subsequent seasons more varieties have been introduced including ghostly white pumpkins! On arrival you can collect one of our wheelbarrows and then set off around the pumpkin field to select the pumpkin(s) you want. We have a carving tent, with carving kits available, so you can carve your masterpiece on site. Also available facepianting, tractor and trailer rides along with refreshments. Come along for some halloween fun.

If you would like us to inform you when the fruit season starts please contact us as it does vary from year to year.
